North Shore Neighbors Say Bienvenidos & Onward House Present:
Where We Are Now: Meeting the Moment
(Part 2 of last year’s program “When the Bus Stops Here”) It’s been over a year since buses first arrived in Wilmette carrying migrant families. In that critical time, the North Shore community stepped up to welcome our new neighbors to the community. Since then, many have wondered: Where are we now? What progress has been made? What challenges do our new neighbors face and what remains to be done to support the effort going forward as a community?
Please join us for an evening of learning, dialogue, and community action led by a leader in this work, Onward Neighborhood House. Onward House has an over 130-year history of collaboration with the New Trier Township and the North Shore faith communities as a community-based organization providing wrap-around humanitarian support for children and families in Chicago, including new arrivals.
This is a moment to revitalize the historically rooted and community-centered models of support. Together with Onward House, we’ll explore innovative ways to bring legal, medical, childcare, food, and other essential services under one roof —and discuss what we can do locally to meet this moment.
Date: Thursday, Nov. 6th | 6:30-8:00 PM
Location: Saints JFX School Gymnasium,
808 Linden Avenue
Wilmette, IL 60091
