Onward Neighborhood House is pleased to welcome Phillip Ruben Nava to the Onward House Board of Directors. Mr. Nava currently serves as Senior Counsel at Tristan & Cervantes. Mr. Nava concentrates his practice in the areas of general business litigation, automobile defense, product liability defense, general liability defense, personal injury, and workers compensation matters.

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Nava enjoyed a successful career as a property and casualty professional with more than fifteen years of experience at several prominent insurance carriers, including State Farm, CNA, and Zurich. During his insurance career, Mr. Nava excelled as a claims manager and litigation claims consultant, managing complex mass tort litigation in a variety of jurisdictions. He is well versed in various lines of insurance, including both personal lines and commercial lines. During his insurance career, he obtained his CPCU and AIC designations as well as an MBA.
During law school, Mr. Nava was active in the school’s honors programs, including being elected as executive editor of The John Marshall Law Review and winning First Place in the Fred E. Herzog Moot Court Competition. He also completed an externship with The Honorable Themis N. Karnezis, Appellate Court of Illinois, First District. Mr. Nava was a Baim Scholar and one of two recipients of the John Marshall Law School Alumni Association scholarship. [omitted the publication]
Prior to joining Tristan & Cervantes, Mr. Nava worked a litigator for The Gloor Law Group for five years, representing various national corporations and insurance carriers in a variety of matters including mass tort, general liability, asbestos, products liability, and construction defect.

Mr. Nava also regularly volunteers his time serving the Latino community by representing clients in family law and immigration matters. Mr. Nava is a first generation Mexican-American born and raised in Chicago and is a native Spanish speaker.
Mr. Nava is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Defense Research Institute (DRI), Diversity Committee, and Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois.
